I was checking the dayz forum on what u need to host a server and I was gonna post a link but of course the site is down. Anyway seems all you have to do is message them with your details and be able to host a min of 40 slots. I think the day z server would bring a ton of new people to the ax community as every server is pretty much packed full 24/7. The only thing they ask is you can not lock the server (go private) or kick for clan mates. They say you can only ban racism and offensive language and obviously hacking although I think battleye issues a global ban is u get caught hacking.

I hope they get the ball rolling soon as this would bring massive flow to the ax community and hopefully more donations to keep everything going smooth.

@undertow
Dude my son just hit a yr and I'm finally beginning to get some sleep. The best advice the doctor gave us was when u swaddle the baby swaddle him so his hands are near his mouth so if he wants to hell suck on his finger and man did he sleep so much better after that.

Oh on a site note :
Dayz may ruin your marriage. Everyone be prepared for that :)

Ok it's back up here's the link and it's now an automated sign up!

I would like to make DayZ the second priority after ordering the server.

I think you guys would have the biggest crowd and be able to really put a load on the server to see how it would hold up.

What makes me happy: all 21 votes cast so far are in favor of the renovations. :2thumbsup:

What slightly worries me: there's only 21 votes. :uhh:

2400 registered members and we can only get 21 to cast a vote on such an important issue? I really hope we get some fresh blood in here soon. Not just warm bodies signing up either; people who will actually participate in the forums.

I think part of the idea is to get these new games rolling out so we can find more people. You can't be stagnant and expect people to just come.

That's another issue too that I wish we could overcome. There are a large number of people who play the games, yet don't post on the forums. In addition, there are lots of people who post in the forums, yet don't play the games (myself included). Someone needs to mention to the CoD2 regulars that this thread is here and they need to make an effort to come in here to vote and give their thoughts. If the CoD2 server changes IP addresses, you're going to lose a LOT of regulars unless they are well aware of what's going on.

true. I ask them to go to the forums regularly for different issues. They rarely do. But we will be sure to bring it to their attention. Rhino will set up a spamming message asking them to do so.

As far as the new ip I thought there was a program that switches people to the new ip when they join the old.

I'd like us to brainstorm ideas that this at some point in the future. I'm pretty sure we can coordinate server side messages with forum related posts and events to get people in here. If Ax starts discussing Arma3 mapping and modding (BAS), we will be looking for others to participate. USually this means soliciting others from outside groups to join us. This kind of thing ultimately links back to the community.

We need to inform the regulars to our server that are not Ax members also. For an example sexy gmicheal,1261, Grasia, terminator, strangler, and mr hitler because they also help build traffic in our server and we will need them in our new one too.

The only reason I found this post is because of the game message in the CoD2 server. I always have trouble finding stuff in the forums probably because I never look, but sry for taking so long to vote!

I think its a good idea and always appreciate the hard work you put in Rhino!

On a side note. Do we really need two COD2 servers. The AX mod is great, but it seems like the pressure cooker might draw even more interest than the old server since we will be losing the ip. Can you switch on the fly between mods? Run the AX mod and then on Thursday evenings run the pressure cooker mod? I am only asking from a cost standpoint.

EDIT: Put a link to this thread in the lounge. I troll these forums everyday and didn't see this Also, I never look at the sticky's because they are usually 5 years old.

When you 'troll' the main page of the forums, look at the date of the last post in the sub forums. If something has a posted date after the last time you looked .................. it's worth reading.

There is no cost issue either way. We pay one flat fee each month abd can run as maNy games as we wish as long as the server can handle the load. In the case of the 4 core setup it says you can run 4-12 servers and upwards of 150 total slots.

So let me get this straight(i know very little about dedicated servers). It doesnt matter how many servers we have, its about how we can split up the slots? So if we really wanted to we could have 1 server with 150 slots or have 150 servers with 1 slot each, and they would cost the same to operate?

Yes. Its about how far the resources we pay for can go. The provider suggests that this should support 4 highed load servers/games (like Battlefield3)....up to 12 older/low load games. Overall performance is a combination of our processing power, memory, bandwidth and lastly the number of players we have on at one time.

For example:

Lets say we had a 50 slot dayz server, two cod2servers, a bf3server and a uo bas server all running. At peak time the day z server had 50 players, cod2 has 20, the bf3 server has 16 and uo has 0. We are still way under the 125-150 slot range and the processor load is maybe medium because coduo and cod 2 are older games and not that demanding. Arma is maybe medium and bf3 is high demand.

If a game / server is not being played then its not adding much to the load. The game is just sitting there loading a map , counting down and then loading the next map.

Thats how we have had three cod2 servers and 2 uo servers running for years...even on an older server.

Would we experience lag spikes or slower connection if all 150 slots are being filled up? or we would have to test this and find out?

There is no set maximum number of slots. Its more about how many games you are playing, and how taxing they are to the cpus.

If we reach the point where lag is an issue then we could always upgrade to more cores, more ram etc.

Lets hope someday we have that problem eh?

I agree with what Spawnalot said. I know CoD2 will go away some day but for now I hope it doesn't. I love playing CoD2 on the AX servers for two reasons: #1) I like the game. It's fun shooting "real" weapons and not lasers or phasers or whatever else. #2) I like the people. This is probably more important than #1. All the AX guys are great.

I only play CoD2. I'll primarily play the CTF server and will jump on the Pressure Cooker server on Thursdays (although I SUCK with bolt rifles! Ha ha ha!). Whatever happens I'll come back to the AX servers for the people. Although, if CoD2 goes away I'll definitely have to get a new PC. The one I play on is literally about 10 years old!

My wife has had job troubles. I lost my job in Jan, got a new one in Feb, then lost it in May. If I get working again I would love to be an AX member and support the community and the servers I play on.

But maybe if you guys buy some of my CD's I can afford to join AX!

Good to see ya back in here, Zak. You should be in the forums more often.

Sorry to here about the work woes. Damn it's tough out there.
But keep pluggin away, and keep bangin them drums, and I know you will work things out somehow.

The_Mad_Zak wrote:If I get working again I would love to be an AX member and support the community and the servers I play on.

Times are tough. Not everybody that plays here has the ability to donate. But that doesn't mean you don't support |ax|.
Just by being here, you, and many others, help support |ax|. The number of players that show up on the server list, the word of mouth by people, being fun to game with when other players check out our server, all help support us. I was told of this server by Shanny. (damn .......... I miss him) He talked me into checking it out and I have been here ever since. I hope I have brought some people in, or gotten some new ones to stay. This is all part of supporting |ax|.

That is what this thread is about; finding a way that those of us with the ability to donate, can keep us all here and having fun. Yes ............. we could use, and need, help from more people donating, but we also need people like you to just be here. It's like you said: "I like the people". It's the people that make this such a great place, and you are one of them. So your, and everyone else's, opinion on the direction and future of |ax| is valued, whether you can donate or not.

The truth is Zak ............................................................. you are a member of :ax:

Gitman ......................... your silence is deafening.

thanks, would've missed this thread without the email.

+1 to testing the server on load... more because i want to actually see 150 ppl out playing on ax servers than the actual test it self

Why is the second arma server not included? I thought it was pretty well agreed that dayz would only be an "extra" on top of adopting arma as our new project

Arma 3, I think, is going to be the new project. It doesn't release until spring of next year.

As for the question do it or not? Of course do it. I suggest not losing CoD2. I understand the theory of newer, better & bigger games. Please include the; if it ain't broke don't fix it portion of reason. It may be hard to please all and a few will escape. LOL.

In any case I'm in. If there's anything I can do just ask. I've been an admin etc. Owned my own board. I know it was a few years back but I'm sure not much has changed. Haven't played much as a game server admin. None the less just let me know.
