Just wondering..
Theres about 10 of us wondering right now, what is it going to take for AX to have our own Arma II Dayz server? Also can we a subforum page made for Arma II Dayz? I mean no disrespect but I also am suggesting that we look into maybe renting a smaller dedicated server. It seems the one we have right now is a little too expensive, and not being used to its maximum capacity.
If we are worried about an empty Dayz server, then think about this. I have yet to see an empty Dayz server in three weeks now. Also its not a problem for a group to find a server, its a problem for us to find a server that has enough empty slots for us to play on. We run into this problem pretty much everytime we get on. It does not matter if the server is a 25 man or 50 man server, they are almost always full, unless the server is nightime or lagging really bad(which can be fixed with a server reset)

Are you going to pay for it?
If so, you can buy one whenever you want. Re: a DayZ forum, it likely won't be created because the interest isn't great enough to justify it. As you said yourself, there's only about 10 people in our community playing it, which isn't enough IMHO to validate creating a new forum for it. I tried to get a new forum created for Skyrim and my request was turned down. It's understandable though because I haven't played it in months and I don't know how many people here even bother with it anymore. Making a new forum for it would have been a waste.

Rafter...Your request was probably not turned down it just fell on deaf ears because the only person who can do it is never around. Just as there is a current request to delete the RO2 Forum and replace it with ARMA2/3.
If ARMA 2/3 and DayZ could be on our dedicated server at no additional cost to the community then I dont see why we shouldnt. Especially if the DayZ servers are staying full. So what if it peters out in a year if our guys want to play and it can run on the dedicated server.
The only thing lacking is the will to do it and access to the server. Only one person, Gitman , can do that and he has been mostly MIA for the last year or so.
On your other point Rafter (Are you going to pay for it?
If so, you can buy one whenever you want. I couldnt dissagree more. I think that's a horrible idea because the result of that is a fracturing of what little community we have. 10 people out of maybe 30-60 active members playing a beta game is a pretty decent percentage. I have ARMA2 Installed but not DayZ yet. I know of at least 2 others contemplating the purchase vs going with BF3 Premium.
The sentiment becomes "AX wont do anything so lets go start our own. I'm tired of waiting for them." All that does is split up AX and results in fewer players on the servers and in the forums. It makes no sense given that we have a largely unused, dedicated gaming server, just sitting there...running UO BAS assault and UO tactical instead. Id rather see 10-15 people donating to support our dedicated server running ARMA than zero players playing UO BAS and donating zero dollars.
That said, only one person holds the keys to the door of this place. Until that changes or he shows some interest in doing anything we are all basically stuck....and frustrated.

Actually I would love to, but honestly I dont know a thing about running a server. But if Ax were to get one, I would definately help support and pay for it.
How many players do we have for RO2? 2 maybe At the max and yet it has its own forum page

No, it was indeed turned down: viewtopic.php?f=35&t=35884

I was busting Tiger's balls. I know he's not going to buy, maintain and administer his own server.

I've got nothing but a big

And we all understand and appreciate that but there is this old expression that goes something like this:

If someone isn't interested in doing it then they need to let go of it.

excuse me if i'm out of line here (i haven't donated yet, but i'm working on it) but it doesn't seem like it would be difficult for him to give "control" to someone else, be it Logik, Rhino, Rafter, or anyone else that knows about this stuff and is around more than him.

Not to speak on his behalf, but I'm sure it's very difficult to just totally let go of something that has been a big part of your life for the past 9+ years.

Thanks for mentioning my name, but I was already an Admin here for several years and gave it up. Needless to say, I would graciously turn down the offer if someone tried to hand me the keys to this place.

Sorry man, didn't mean to offend. I was just throwing something out there. I'm sure there's someone willing and capable, is all i was saying.
I don't think it has to be a 24/7 job, just someone to get it to what it's evolved to be. Which, I think, is something more than a CoD community.

No worries. I'm not offended at all. Based on my past experience here, it IS a 24/7 job when it comes to running and maintaining servers. You basically need to make yourself available all the time in case a server goes down or some other major issue arises. A good example of this would be when our entire website and forums went down a few weeks ago for multiple days. Unfortunately, most (if not all) of the higher-ups in here don't have that kind of immediate availability.
You're right about us not being a CoD community anymore. We haven't been purely CoD for years now. Our overall website look and feel may convey that message, but it's no longer the case. Frankly, if you want my
on the issue, it's simply that the gaming world is too big and there's too much out there for us to maintain a healthy, successful community on just one or two titles. Plus, we no longer offer anything exclusive like we used to with the AnarchicMods. Now, the most successful sites out there are the ones that provide information on gaming in general, such as IGN and Gamespot or game-specific official websites that are maintained by the game publisher/developer themselves, like Company of Heroes or Bungie. Lets face it, if you want the latest info about a particular game, you'll visit one of these larger general or game-specific sites, not a random community like ours. Without anything truly "special" or "exclusive" about our community, new user registrations will continue to drop, as they have been for a while now...June 28, 2011 - June 27, 2012: 57 new forum members
June 28, 2010 - June 27, 2011: 98 new forum members
June 28, 2010 - June 27, 2009: 200 new forum members
In a nutshell, new member registrations have dropped about 50% each year for the past 3 years (as far back as I looked).
Don't get me wrong, I love |ax| and I've been here a long time, but I'm also realistic. If a major change does not happen soon, we will continue to dwindle.

I feel this discussion has sidetracked a little bit.. All I was asking what do I/We (Dayz players) need to do to be able to have an AX server. If we have to buy our own server by ourselves then just let us know.

I'm not disagreeing with you, obviously the numbers speak for themselves, but what it seems like we're talking about here is the fact that people have brought up new ideas or ways to move the community forward, but the guys controlling things can't, or won't, spare the time for change.
I think (again with my -probably out of line - opinion) THAT is the issue at hand. The fact that someone should be around that is able to get the wheels spinning. Some of these ideas may bring in new faces.

Yes, but this goes back to Rhino's idea of fragmentation. Let's get everyone together here and have an easy way of supporting games when we can.

Well, if I was requesting something specific from the "management" team, I would only wait so long before I took it upon myself to do what it was I wanted to be done. I'm not saying a rebellion or mutiny is in order, but if the group of you guys who want a DayZ server request one long enough without anything happening, pool your money together, pick an Administrator/leader for that server amongst yourselves, and buy your own. At least that's what I would do.

I offered up a plan in the admin forums.
The feeling I seem to get is that yes everyone knows something needs to be done but no one is willing to commit to anything. Its like we are all waiting for Gitman to decide what he wants to do....
" and if you choose not to decide you still have made a choice.."
Here is what I offered up:
Rhino wrote:Wolfservers.com

AMD Athlon 64 X2 2.3Ghz 2nd month free
4+ GB
250 GB
Unlimited Gaming Bandwidth*
10 or 100mbps port

Price $134/month

We are almost covering this much during the slow summer months...
Lowers our costs by 1/3 but give us room to grow too.
I would vote for a move under the above conditions. (If the server fits our needs)-Simplify the server setup and move to a control panel server admin
-Delete the unused games except for CODUO BAS (for ol time sake, reduce the game slots as needed. 25?)
-Install ARMA 2/ DayZ (See also milkman and tigers posts here.) viewtopic.php?p=373208#p373208
-Install Terraria
-Push to solicit funding of the $134 per month (Ask members for a 6 month commitment of $5 or $10 dollars)
-Create a new website home page (I volunteer my services if desired)
-Get out the second AX newsletter (Already in the works with Fullwoods help)
-Communicate our plans to the community and get feedback
-Get more people involved in the site and forums
-Check into some affiliations (Newegg?) that might bring AX a bit o $$ each month.
-Plan on and promote ARMA3 in the fall
-Get ready for and promote COH2 (no private server needed right?)
-Reevaluate the funding, games and costs January 1, 2013 and in the mean time....
Game On!!
I'll even pay for the second month myself. Oh wait. Its free...
That would at least make the transition period easier and I could cover the initial month ($134) as my $10/month, 1 year commitment.
It may not be the ideal plan but it beats no plan at all...which is where we are and have been.
Personally I think you guys need to be part of the discussion because its about the community. We have transitioned from a development community to a gaming community. We are the ones that are going to pay the bills..or not. Its not an admin only decision in my eyes.

Rhino that sounds like a great plan to me. The community needs to make a move somehow, and this seems to be the first step in the right direction.

Re: Just wondering..
Back to the original subject here..
Apparently there is a big price difference in ARMA2 servers.
I would think if you get enough pledged donations to pay for it for 2- 3 months that AX might be motivated to install and run it for you.
I'd certainly be willing to present it in the forums if you guys get that together.

Re: Just wondering..
Are DayZ servers separate from ArmA II, or if we get an ArmA II server can we just add DayZ? I would be 100% positive on this 'cause we don't want to just get an ArmA II server and not be able to play DayZ
I used to play with another group and they rented their own server. It only costs like $40 something for a 25 man server

$2.95/slot through gameservers.com is absolutely ridiculous. I would NOT rent a server through them unless it was for some other game.

Crazy huh?
Top one is was artofwarcentral.com
Bottom was gameservers.com
Arma2 does seem to be unusually steep for a game thats 2-3 years old.
