rotation changes

Postby buddha » Thu Jun 14, 2012 9:38 am

I'd like to see some changes to our rotation.
There is a core group of players on the regular COD2 server who play virtually every day
and 'fill' the server. A core group that enjoy the more bolt friendly maps rather then the spray and pray maps or the heavy building-laden-sit-on-roof-tops maps.
Players like Mistake, Jason, CT, Risk, Deadman, Chicago, Chuckie, myself..Although we cannot expect that every map suits our play or preference, I'd like to see our constant attendance rewarded by more maps that are bolt friendly and also by removing the stale regular maps that are still part of our rotation.

Here are the maps I dislike and should be removed in my humble opinion:

City under Siege
Mogadishu
ST Mere Eglise
Rhine (Wallandar)
Commando's
Viller Bocage
Remagen

Maps I really like:

Toujane
Winter Toujane
Brecourt
Flack Battery
Battle lines
Tobruk
Outpost
Big Red
Ronin (both versions) probably more to be used as 'inserts' for admin
Moscow
Gunslingers
StalinGrad

Maps that are 'meh':

Cannes
Rouen
Rostov
Bahnhoff

There are probably some more that I forgot, but I am sure that others can come up with more.

Hoping to kick off a discussion and a sooner rather then later fresh rotation..

A few things...

1. I can remove those maps from the rotation but what new maps do you want instead? People will get tired pf playing a small rotation of just bolt friendly maps as well.

2. Grim , Ct, and myself can always change maps for you.

3. As i have been told a few times by the powers that be...the ctf server is not a bolts only server and so our maps need to reflect that.

4. I have been adding and trying new maps every couple of weeks when i find them. recwntly we have added, commando, bettlelines, and the two small ronin maps.

5. Maps like rhine, st mere and brecourt can be removed from a rotation but not removed from the server they are part of the defaut stock maps..

6. i added battlelines and you can always request it or flak or any other map from the admins. Flak is definitely too big to have in thebrotation. Our large maps need to load when the server can support thosentypes of maps.

7. The current rotation and maps are always an attempt to keep a good healthy mix of small, medium and large maps on the server. We rarely seem to get enough players to play an operation condor, bahnhoff, flak batterie, or sabes du moth. While i like bolt friendly maps we also have to consider overall size, and what our non bolt players want to play.

8. The pressurecooker was setup as bolts only for the last three months or so and no one played it except on thursdays for pc night.

8. Some new map suggestions would be helpful. Especially small and medium sized maps.

Hey Rhino,

good to have you back.
Let me start by saying it was just meant to start a discussion. I realise it is not a bolt only server but often we find our selves with just the core group of players and are faced with some maps that are not enjoyable to us. The above opinions are ours only, and all I am doing is bring that forward and up for discussion. I don't know the pressure cooker maps that well but I do know 'Big Red' which I found quite enjoyable.
If we could change just a few to more bolt friendly (which means NOT bolts only) maps then I would be happy already.
I was hoping some people would come up with some suggestions.
It might be that because you and Grimm were not there for a week we were struggling with the rotation.

Still, love your work.

Am not back yet but it is nice to be missed...

Am making my way back home over the next two days.

If you want to kill some time and browse for maps then try here. They have 6+ previews for each map.

I have a suggestion, why not make Buddha an admin for Cod2? He is almost always in cod2, he knows the maps that fits the crowd thats in the game. I think he would make a great addition to the already great Admin team. Im not sure if there is a limit to the amount of Admins, but if there is not then why not make him an admin. This could be an easy fix without having to change the current map list.

But if making him an admin is not possible, then please consider maybe removing Townville. The Map,everytime that i have played it, seems to cut the server in half. Its a great map but it appears maybe everyone is tired with it or just doesnt like it. :2cents:

Buddha we can try Big Red but it has bad spawn locations (fixed on the PC server). Unfortunately Gitman wont let us fix spawns on the regular server and he isnt around much to help with anything unless it crashes.

We do need some new PB Admins but that would not give them full rcon status. I do believe they would be able to manually rotate the server or load a specific map. CT could answer that.

Mirf has been suggested but he has been MIA the last month or so.

Artic I'll put Townville back in reserve but we still need a mix of small and medium sized maps with an occasional large map thrown in just in case we have 16-24 players. Every rotation is always going to have a few maps that are bad for the number of players we have at any given time. The best solution is having an admin around to deal with it and take requests.

I'll take a look at the rotation and see what I can delete / shift around.

Map suggestions are always encouraged. If I do all the leg work then your only going to see the maps I might like.

Come on guys...

Here are the current maps with some descriptors. Which ones (2-4) do we want to loose? Obviously we cant remove the stock maps but we can keep some of them out of the next rotation.

I vote for Dora Mogadishu Maaloy

Only got two responses. Not surprised I guess.

Easier for people to complain later that participate ahead of time.

Removed the following customs:
Dora
Commando
Remagen
Matmatan
Maaloy
Mogadishu

Added:
Battlelines
Schlossadler
El Daba
Big Red

Fixed:
German Farm
Schultzwood

I'll start working the customs back into a rotation but you guys will need to ask for the maps you want until then.

I took out most of the maps you requested but CUS is liked by some players. It wont be in the rotation if that helps.

:ax: Hey everyone! :ax:

So, as you all know, I love most every map. The few I dislike, I assume are agreed. St Mere Eglise, though a stock favorite, sucks you know what for the Germans every game. Also, I feel with our selection, it wouldn't be missed a whole lot.

The other grumbles i hear, and somewhat feel myself, are on Rhine a.k.a Wallender. It's a nice map, realistic, but obviously people aren't feeling it. I love a good street battle on the west with a B.A.R. myself...

I would love to see again Battlelines, I know, it's frustrating. Whether you win or lose, you'll hate it...but it's that, that makes it great. The challenge of beating the best shooter, who may or may not end up with the best score "persay" : It's the best team that takes the win. One of my personal favorites.

The new Daba map, sort of a Port/Tujane on steroids, is a cool map...also promotes a team play, since the flag carrier has a LONG way to go b4 he brings that puppy home. It's a good find.

Small list I'd like to see in reserve if possible

- Simmerath |ax| :ax:
-Farmhouse Assult? - With the 2 big houses for each team. You know what I'm talking about.

-D-Day or some variation i.e. ohmaha beach, Pont du hoc, or i've seen juno beach maps...that are always great.

There are some i can't remember currently but, I will return with more! Thanks everyone ! have Fun

Maybe you can help me rework Simmerath? I can fix some of those if you want to get with me on the dev server and look at the actual spawn points. and flag positions.

Maybe we can make it playable again.

I personally would rather sit on a bed of dicks than play Battlelines(thats not a good thing). I like and can tolerate most maps. There were some cool maps that we used to have in the rotation. I think the were from kalsmaps.com, but I'm not sure. There is a Tunis map that I played on another server the other day that was pretty cool. It's a larger desert map similar to toujane but was pretty cool.

I actually thought about reworking that map.

Its a good map but seemed a little one dimensional with the spawn locations and flags. Like it never played up to its potential.

I'll look at it.

The new map I reworked called El Daba is a desert map that seems to play pretty well.

I'd also like to try out this version of Cassino ported by hyp:

It's a good combination of short-range and long-range combat. Spawns might need to be reworked, though.
