public matches
I like to get a gang of up to 4 going and see if we can play some 2 on 2, 3 on 3, 4 on 4 against anyone by opening it up to the public on Relic. Probably mainly standard COH maps first.
Our main advantage would be TS so we can talk tactics on forehand. This is a different ball game because we would be playing against veterans who come flying out of the blocks. Sitting back and build mg nests is not going to cut it. Infantry and speed with balanced doctrines and team work is going to be the key.
If anyone is interested please put your name forward and we can get this going. I would envisage this taking place around 5, 6 7 pm your time every day (that is whoever is in TS) but I am open if you want to have it earlier in the day (Till for instance)
regards

Re: public matches
I like this idea. Count me in.
Unfortunately, this is how the British tactics work. Slow to muster, but tough to stop once they get going. As long as we had at least 2 teams out of our 4 go American, we should be OK though.
American tanks & Airborne + British emplacements & artillery = VICTORY!
I could see the doctrines for our team of 4 people working well like this...
This would give us a very wide variety of attack and defense options without getting pigeon-holed into one method. The armored American team and the Royal Engineer Brits would produce the tank battalions for heavy ground attacks. The Airborne Americans would infiltrate enemy sectors and capture resources, disrupting their ability to produce men and vehicles. The artillery British would give long-range support with overwatch placed on our resource points and creeping barrages hitting enemy emplacements and infantry blobs.

I'm up to the task, but I am not that good against brains...
I am much better against pre-programmed logic with set deactivation points...

Re: public matches
Sounds like a great idea Buddha, I am in
.
I am going to need some practice to get the rust out for the player vs. player matches. I think August of last year was my last player vs. player match
. I will have to get some practice too on playing German, it has been a while.
I was looking over the names on my players list... for games against the general public, some players may need to create an alias account or a Smurf account (as it is called in the COH community). Having names such as axBuddha, axRafterman, axRhino, etc. all on the same team in a pick up game will tip off to the public that we normally play together and we are talking to each other on teamspeak. A lot of players may not join the match because of that. We may find a game quicker if a couple of players who normally have ax in front of their names play under an alias, a.k.a. Smurfing. Also, in our game titles, we can set a maximum player level so that we won't be taken to school by pros of the game.
We also have been having a lot of ax community players playing lately, including some new players to the COH scene. We can definitely organize some ax community matches... some 3 vs 3, 4 vs. 4. Distribute players evenly as possible based on skill, faction preference, pick a map and play.
I know the majority of the players in this community love playing maps with bridges and defined choke points. My request is to once in a while to play a map that is more open, with less defined choke points, that forces us to play differently. Kind of what Rhino was suggesting in a previous post. Looking forward to some good games

Re: public matches
Sounds good bielab.
Ill create an alias and ill be starting to play soon.
My public alias name will be Arohaconfused.
Aroha in Maori means 'love'.
So whoever is in TS from tomorrow onwards and is keen on a challende, lets get our ass kicked or kick some.

Re: public matches
had our first 'open' match up and we won supprisingly easy. Our ax team (Bielab, Vorg, Raft and myself) pretty much massacred our opponent within 30 minutes on Road to Montherme.
Well played and hopefully the start for some regular public matches.

That was nice match. Hard fought, great teamwork on our part. They had a few good players playing. SirWargod gave us a lot of trouble, especially at the ammo dump hill. Unfortunately for the Krauts, GENyankee was not very useful in the match. It looked like he attacked us twice and both times he attacked, buddha annihilated his forces. The rest of the match, he just hung out at his base. Too bad, he begged us before the match not to kick him. Regardless, we did a very good job working together and the match is a nice confidence builder for us to carry over to future matches

I created a "smurf" account today and have played a couple good matches so far on it. The account is Desertfox522.

Re: public matches
ArticTiger and I played a tough match on Duclair. The other team was very good, they mirco'd their units very well, and took out several squads of my rifleman. Are early game was very weak, we still need some more practice working together. My intention was to have both of us work the same flank and my infantry cover Tiger's support units' flanks. It did not happen as planned, but we managed to recover and we pulled it off. Luckily they did not invest a lot in anti armor units.
It was a nice comeback win for us since Tiger and I got are butts kicked on a previous match on Achelous River. Looking forward to more matches

Re: public matches
Tough match against some random opponents, we got taken to school.

Apparently, when I surrendered and quit, the match booted Maarek and Vorg. Maarek, here is a copy of the replay

Re: public matches
Montargis is a tough map, especially if the germans fail to capture and defend the gas points in the middle of the map.

Re: public matches
Tiger and I went 0 for 2 tonight.
First match was supposed to be a 3 vs 3 match with Buddha. He lost connection and did not get back, so we invited a pubbie on our team. Decent 3 vs 3 on Vimoutiers. The pubbie that we picked up was still learning how to use the Brits. He floated a lot of manpower and fuel in the match and he did not upgrade to a field support truck and to an armor truck. We definitely needed his support against those guys. Hopefully he learned something.

Then a 2 vs 2 on Lyon
