|ax| stock map will be Toujane with all weapons

[hy] stock map will be__________ with all weapons

Third round tie breaker will be ____________ with bolts rifles only. Team will have a schoice or any type of bolt. KAR, Mosin, or Lee Enfield

We will play each map twice so you will be ax is once and allies once.

Winner of the overall match will be the team that wins both total number or maps and total number of rounds.

We will use the extreme mod 2.7 with most bells and whistles turned off. NO running, no artillery, no tipwires or landmines, no arcade scoring, autoregen health, 1 frag per spawn, smoke at 30 points. Cap limit will be set to 10 and time limit will be set at 20 minutes per round.

Tiebreaker round (3rd map), if needed) will be played only once. We will bash off until one player remains and he will choose which side his team wants...axis or allies.

Ties are a possibility on a per round and per map basis.

Warmup will be Pirates Bay with bolts (7:30)

Cooldown will be Worldcup CTFB with shotguns, 2 rounds only, knives and bash

Please get me your map selections by Friday.

OK here is the latest info......

The maps are set: Carentan, Toujane, Brecourt - 2 rounds each.

Rounds will be 20 minutes with a scoring limit of 10.

One frag grenade per spawn and one smoke grenade after you reach 30 points.

1 point per frag, 2 points for returning the flag and 10 points for a cap.

The winner will be the team that wins the most maps

If we are tied at the end of three maps then we will play one game of Last Team Standing.

As the guests they will get the choice of either the map or the team they want to be on.

The warm up will start at 7:30 on the map Pirates Bay (bolts only)

The cool down map will be a game of Worldcup (shotguns only ctfb)

The server password is axvshy

The server is up and running those maps now so you are free to check it out.

I agree with this to the extent that, no matter what the situation, players need to be respectful, speak intelligently, and voice their concerns/issues in a reasonable manner. Admitedly even I, out of sheer frustration, talked out of turn.

That being said, with all the problems we were experiencing (read: being slaughtered), you can see why attitudes turned sour quickly.

From our perpesctive, the |ax| team came out strong, you were coordinated, and played the maps just how we all know you should - it is not overlooked that you had a very competitive team. While [hy] was attempting the same, it amounted to nothing, zip, nada. We had maybe two players with positive ratios.

What you were hearing from us was "NO REG", "something is messed up" , "BS" :bs: etc... Honestly, nothing was hitting you guys (I know, excuses right?). Last time we scrimmed, it was very balanced, even for using the ax mod which most of our team didn't use regularly. So, it seems like quite a difference when we switched to the eXtreme mod this time and were blown out.

In short, we think that yes there was a problem either server or mod side. Even on the [hy] server during peak times you can 'feel' the difference from one side compared to the other (hit reg and fluidity etc). We realize this is not an issue you could have helped but something that we just had to deal with.

Sorry we couldn't have provided a better match - honestly, we wanted to give you a good fight! Thanks for all the work setting it up (Rhino et al.) and thanks for hosting us again.

N.B - Rhino and I discussed doing a 'pre-scrim' next time the night before a scrim to work out the mod/server kinks. Hopefully, this can resolve/identify the seeming issues we experienced.

What maybe came across as poor sportsmanship might have just been plain frustration on their part.

As started above I wont run the extreme mod for a scrimmage again.

I like the idea of the extreme mod because their is so much flexibility in it that the |ax| mod lacks.
For example limited weapons setups on a per map basis. The readyup system is nice for scrimmaging...like loading horses in the gate so that we all start at once. We also use it for specialty maps like worldcup where we limit the available ammo or Sniper village where we turn on the artillery and try to drive the other snipers out of their hiding spots.

I posted the following to extreme mod crew:

This is not really a support request just a report on performance and lag issues. Feedback and suggestions would be appreciated though.

We ran a small scrimmage on a 24 slot server last night using the 2.7 version of the extreme mod, The game type was ctf and I had turned off most all of the bells and whistles including, artillery, mortars, airstrikes, flares, flak, arcade scoring, auto taunts,etc. Additionally I limited the smoke grenades to two active grenades per team but as soon as players achieved the smoke grenades and started using them the whole server started to lag.

At that point we turned smoke off but the opposing squad still could not register hits even though the ping across the network and on the server looked normal for both teams.

I did have the readyup system on and the blood effects were installed.

In the end the scrimmage was a bust for them and they left with the feeling that the extreme mod and my server were the issue.

I like the mod mod but if it has these kinds of issues then I can't really see myself using it.

Can you make any suggestions that might slim the thing down or make the game play consistent and reliable?


The only response I got was as follows and still doesnt explain the issues we saw:

lag?

Over the years I have seen many servers that seemed to have lag, including my own. In the end most of these cases boiled down to bandwidth. That is, the speed of the internet connection that the server has. Servers "serve" the game to the entire cast of players, one at a time, so upload speed of the server's internet connection is what is critical.

The game allocates about 100k of bandwidth to each player's slot. So for a 24 slot server and 24 players, the server needs about 24 times 100k of bandwidth. That is 2.4 megs per sec of upload bandwidth. This is more than DSL can handle for a server operated from home where the DSL upload speed is about 1 meg (and can support only about 10 players). So for a home server measure your upload speed (speakeasy.com) and then divide by 100k to get the max number of players. LAN? no problem.

And some providers seem to have trouble even with the so called fancy internet backbone connection. My old extreme server was recently moved (the entire box was moved) to a new internet hub in the same city. Now I can stress the game to the max and see no lag and no dropping of players as the gamestate increases.

So please tell us if you are running a home server on dsl? or some mickey mouse provider with a cheap connection? How many players were on the server?

My belief is that smoke nades only lag players with lousy video cards... ...or, servers with lousy upload speeds.

Once the bandwith question is answered, maybe someone here has some other ideas....

oh and turn off antilag - it does not work. .. and the mod is faster if you turn off logging like this:

PAM Mod was the best competition mod out there for ladders and leagues and was used by all. :2cents: There is a newer version than the one Mirf linked to though. Here is a direct download LINK from TWL's site.

I was not there, but I can (like many many others on our own ax server) completely understand the frustration you can find yourself in when getting owned. Very hard not to bitch, whinge and moan. Having played a few times on the hy server myself (where, by the way, I had a few difficulties adjusting to their mod and the 'F-word' rolled freely of my tongue)and I can only say I was welcomed warmly by the hy players (Eagle, Gabby and others) and like to see a continuation of the improved relationship between ax and hy.

If we are going to host scrimmages again then I'm definitely going to do some testing including the Pam, Awe and AX mods. One way or another we want to get to the cleanest most reliable setup we can.

That is if there is interest....

Spawn and I discussed having another hy scrimmage with each group brining two, six man teams. Then rounds would be played 6 vs 6 and both groups can put together two squads on their own.

I'd also like to put in the 1 vs 1 tournament for the ax family in January.

Maybe you could get HY's mod along with the PAM, AX & extreme mods installed on the Pressure cooker, so we can switch up the mods and see which mods play the best. I think also on this past scrimage, we had a few of the better players (vorg, dirka,c-knight, nightmare, mirfser) that ive never scrimaged with all together, and that could have added to the frustration LOL
