So, this map switching thing is taking the fun out of the game for me. Every time the server switches to a new map the WaW process freezes and I have to open task manager and kill the .exe then restart the game to get to the next map. If the server is busy I can forget about getting back in. Is there something I should check in my files? Should I wipe all map files and reload? Anyone have any ideas?

:whoknows:

have you sat and waited for a min or so to see if the program stops hanging? I know on my old processor it was real bad and would go to the desktop view between maps for almost a min before it switched back to WAW. The new processor still does it but it hangs for 20-30 sec now.

If you have to download the map it switches to, then the game will crash. That has been a problem with all custom maps from the release of the game. If you already have the map then like thumper said, just give it a minute or so and see if it comes back up.

Close any recording programs you have, and even steam if it's related with WAW (only if you did not buy it off steam, close steam). These programs do not know what to do when the game loads a mod and they get stuck.

Okay, last night logged on and played farm. when game ended map switched to Ponyri and game locked up so I was patient and finally the loading screen for Ponyri came up. but the progress bar never incremented. then screen went black and after a short time the loading screen came back up. then the progress bar started loading. when the progress bar filled all the way I got a message "Server Disconnected". When I tried to go back to the find game screen and join the Ponyri game I could select the server but the JOIN button would not do anything. I tried to double-click on the server and nothing happened. the only way I can get back to the server is to restart the WaW software. ???!?!?!

 :fire: :banghead: :2thumbsdown:

Any Ideas?

bump it up to at least 2GB, but go with 3GB if you can. although i have no data to support this claim, i am of the opinion that you need at least 1GB just for windows XP to operate smoothly. WaW itself can suck up 800MB or so of memory. at that point, your system is relying on the page file on disk (swapping) which extends the amount of time it takes to load a map, which is why the server disconnects you.

another option is creating a separate user account in windows, and then make sure that absolutely no other programs are running in the background in that account, and just use it for gaming. switch back to your main account if you need to do something else.

your most noticeable improvement will be the addition of more memory, though.

I had the same issue with my old single core processor. When I went the the 3 core all the loading issues and freezing stoped. I was running a amd single core overclocked to 3.2 with 4 gigs of ram on xp and it would freeze like you have experienced. now running a 3 core @ 3.01 and no issues loading at all. I made no other changes to my system. 85 bucks well spent IMHO.

Food for thought run your task manager in the backround and see ifthe CPU usage maxes out durring map changes. I would lay money it does.

The ram upgrade did the trick. I guess is was taking too long for my PC to switch the maps and I was getting kicked by the server. Had a great time this weekend. Thanks for everyones help. You guys are great!
