ctf server updates - 01.16.2010
some new server-side only changes were put in today.

per this thread, implemented idle watchdog feature. checks for changes in player origin and angles to determine movement, otherwise moves the player to spectate after a specific amount of time, and lets everyone in the server know about it. i had the pseudo-code written for this a long time ago but just now got around to finishing it.

per this thread, OT clock now counts up instead of staying at 0:00. just a simple call to setTimerUp().

per this thread, grenades that detonate within 3 seconds of spawn assist ending will only do 1% of their total damage. you can cancel spawn assist by discharging your weapon first. since grenades have a cook time of 3.5 seconds, this means you can start cooking the nade half a second before spawn assist ends and it will do full damage.

changed "joined team" messages to indicate when someone used auto-assign. should help deter the "omg you didn't auto-assign!" accusations.

british now spawn with colt pistol when selecting enfield (both scoped and unscoped).

team kill prevention system improved. geared more towards asshats now instead of the accidental team killers.

I'm very happy with the changes with one exception: the spawn grenade thing. People were pretty unhappy about it on the server tonight. There were a lot of complaints and I agreed. For the amount of strife it's creating, I don't think it's worth it. I checked my stats, and I have about 10% of my kills from nades, and I definitely use mine a lot. Even Stingray only gets about 20% from his and he's got 2 of the 4 grenade kill awards. I think that the way things were, nades cooked soon after spawn made the game closer. 3 secs is a very long time on a map where a cap can be scored in 15 secs.
That said, I can't wait to play an OT game with the new clock. That is going to be ten kinds of awesome! Thanks for your work on the server. My criticism is only to ensure that it remains a fun place to play. I think most of the changes are positive, especially anything that will cut down on afk.
