I miss...
playing Bas with all of you regulars. It's the game I found the most teamwork in, in any gametype. Especially in our friendly server we had, it was easy to gather a little squad. Fuck up, of course, but get another jeep and you're on the go. Get that 40 or 50 kills or whatever and you get the almighty artillery barrage. Get me close to one of your bases and I'll blow it up. Then it's time to actually get inside the bunker, but fuck! There's a tank camping right there! Where's my satchel charge... Get inside the bunker, smoke it all out. Right before you start planting the bomb, you have reinforcements comming. Right before you plant the bomb, you aimed down on the floor to call in artillery. You're planting... you're planting... *ding, ding... ding..... KABOOM!* "Aw dude, I almost hadd thaaat."
Sometimes, the team would let each other know where enemy tanks are. I hunt them down. And when there's 4 of them? Shooot, where's my artillery at?
There was always a constant thrill. You always, or I always, had this crazy idea when the enemy used their artillery on their own base to clear up the area... you'd run through there thinking that you could dodge each hit. Sometimes you did, sometimes you didn't. You checked your map and needed backup in an area since there were tanks and you were all out. So you could do nothing but stare at the tanks. And if there were enemy infantry by the tanks, you didn't dare shoot them. Else the head of the tank will turn to you and KABOOM. There was also this feeling that you KIND OF had to use "instincts" to find the enemy. What I'm picturing is mp_townassault. You know, those big squared area's with just those line of trees as your "cover". And when you're American, and you hear a MP44, KAR, MP40, or a German gun... that's when you know it's time to go hunting.
Those joycart rides on the jeeps. Whichever seat you were in, I guarantee you, it was fun. Except in those Milk Trucks. The point of view in a jeep when you're the driver, all you're thinking is: Don't mess up, don't hit that building, don't hit that building... When you're using the machine gun: Aw hell yeah! I'm gonna get some! And on the passanger seat: Ok, so I'm gonna use this Bazooka to shoot at tanks if we pass by one. What I thought was cool in the jeeps was when you're pretty much just "parked", and you're waiting for someone to fill up the last seat right? Then all of a sudden, your machine gun guy gets sniped and all you're thinking is, "GO GO GO GO GO!" But at the same time you're laughing your ass off just because that happened.
The tanks though... I never liked using them. 4 hits to kill another tank. 1 hit if you shoot the tank from behind. The only cool part when there was usage of the tanks, and I'm thinking of Foy, is when either side gets all of their tanks and rolls in deep to get that last base. Let's say you're German on Foy. If you get all the tanks in good use, and go through all the streets in Foy, you looked on the compass and thought: Man, this is pretty cool.
As an infantry and on foot. It was tactical. You had to get all the Bazooka ammo, satchel ammo you could get. Because you never know when you're gonna end up by a tank. If you had a little squad of you're own, there was always little encounterments. You used the voice chat: Enemy spotted! Or, enemy down! Just the feel of having your own squad was cool. I remember one time, there was 3 or 4 of us... We were about to cross the river in mp_gunassault by the American's side. We thought of this crazy idea... Let's throw a line of smoke to cover us. We threw our smoke grenades, evidently, one of them spotted us. That American started shooting toward the line of smoke and I was in the back of the squad. I saw the guy in front of me get shot and killed and it just felt cool. Also, as an infantry. Holding one spot by yourself can make a difference. As much as you don't see anybody pass by your area, there's sometimes a need to hold that position. I'm thinking of Foy, again. From the American's side, all the way right side of the town. If you let the Germans come through that side, it can be hell.
I know this is alot to read, but these are things that I miss when there was Bas. So, sorry if I wasted your time, but this is the ax community that I've been with since there was AX TDM. Even GFM. Bustin tanks, bustin jeeps, killing you with my M1 Garand then you always heard that DING in the end of the clip. It's just the change that has happened overtime with the CoD series changed everything. Especially WaW. It's... stupid. You can't have a black dot on a PPSH. You can't have a "flash hider" on a M1 Garand. You can't have a Gewher with an "ACOG" scope. It's stupid. Perks are stupid. Perks disable equality and teamwork. Because now, each is on their own. There is no teamwork. But I can assure you, in AX TDM, there was teamwork. You pushed THEIR side or they pushed YOUR side. All you can do is make them get pushed further down, or you push back. Flanks actually mattered. I can assure all of you guys, that playing Bas with this community is the best there will ever be. And I'm glad I've spent it with this community. Because now I know, that there will never be a thrill like this again. There will never be Bas again. So, thanks Ax.
May this community live on.

Re: I miss...
i really miss those old times of UO. i miss playing with everyone that has moved on to the newer games or quit playing when cod4 came out. i miss all those guys (breached, gregpl, xebache, and the list goes on). i miss TeamSpeak. i miss all the long matches that went into the wee hours of the morning. i miss jeeps, trucks, tanks, heavy tanks, bazookas, panzershreks, panzerfausts, mortars, cannons, and especially 88s. i miss stealing the other team's tanks (and then having that random ass person find them and blow them up thinking there was no point to them being back there then having everyone hound them for doing it
) i miss teams that used the guns from that certain country (thanks cod4 for fucking that up and WaW for continuing it). i miss big maps. i miss running through these big maps just for fun. i miss sniper rifles that didnt have that stupid hold-your-breath crap. i miss everyone hopping into every tank and jeep they could find and storming the other team only to have it usually end in disaster
. i miss artillery that didnt come after getting 5 kills. i miss just finding the enemy rather than have a UAV find them for you. i miss playing games where everyone didnt use a fucking automatic weapon. i cant really think of anything else at this time.
what i really miss most of all is base assault. i played my fair share of tdm and ctf and nothing compares to how much fun i had when i first found that Anarchic-X Base Assault server. i was a regular on a ctf server for a couple years. i got kind of bored of playing ctf all the time (not really. i mostly wanted to find a different gametype that i hadnt played and see what it was like). as soon as i found |ax| i really never went back. i stayed solely on |ax| servers from that point on. i still remember playing tdm with boog and having him get hundreds of kills above everyone else
i remember playing gfm with Gambakufu when nobody else was on the server. no one was really on and we would just play 1 on 1 until someone else showed up
i'd love to write some of my memories during base assault games but i have WAY too many to even start on. plain and simple, i miss playing base assault. i found myself not playing UO anymore and uninstalled it a while back. i got tired of hoping people would be on to play and find out there was nobody on. i hated waiting in the server alone, messing around until a couple people would show up and then having them leave after the match ended. it really came down to me getting tired of trying to put life into a now 5 year old game that was pretty much done thanks to shitty, half-completed games thrown out by IW. its sad to see that Treyarch has fallen down that path as well (not their fault but look at WaW and imo the disaster that they released). i dont really play games anymore (i hardly play WaW. perks and ranks bore the hell out of me) but i would go back to finding time to play UO bas anyday.
i am glad to be in |ax| and im extremely glad i fumbled upon that great server. this is a great community and ive loved every minute that ive been here. im sorry to those TeamSpeak guys who i havent talked to in a long time now. i miss hanging out and blastin each other for fun
i know we've all had our arguments with each other but things tend to work out (not all the time. look at what happenened during bas and ctf. shit happens and we've all moved on). thank you to everyone who i have played with and come to know here. i dont think my life would be the same if i hadnt joined this community. many of you have given me advice on all different levels. the TS guys got me through times when i wasnt in the best mood. i could count on them to cheer me up, make me laugh, and have fun.

Re: I miss...
you guys have said pretty much what I could say, I miss what we had and all the good times I had. this is the only game where I actually felt like i was part of the bigger picture and even better a part of one of the greatest wars in world history. nothing has or ever will give me that feeling back, just the sheer scale of it all is what made it so enjoyable. Until a team of dedicated people who want realism but just with a hint of arcadiness come around to once again send us back in time and plop us in the middle of Europe fighting against the nazi regime, I don't ever see this being a reality anymore. there just aren't enough dedicated players out there to keep it going. I too uninstalled UO after a while cause I knew that it was never going to be again. it's sad to think about because of all the friends and acquaintances I've made over the past 5 years here. AX has fueled my passion for just about everything, I mean hell! I have a hat with the AX tags and custom made shoes specifically designed with this community in mind. I know I'm not around much anymore to play or anything and most of you probably don't care much that I'm not but I surely do want to put my 2 cents in about this whole thing. I would give all the games I have wasted my time on over the years to get UO back to what it used to be.

Yep, same here, and I still use it...

Re: I miss...
I still remember my first steps on BAS and especially my first TS day with BAS. I was so lost.
I joined a long Gunassault match, both teams had only 1 base left. I joined Allies and Logik and Maiden were the Allied team leaders. We made a lof of unsuccessful attempts to get in the last base but somehow I reached it without being seen by the Axis soldiers. I told it via teamchat and everyone was happy that anyone was inside and tried to support me with Artillery. They gave me the command to plant, arty dropped on the base and Axis planed a bomb in our base a few seconds later. 2 Axis players survived arty and came down into the base, Maiden and Logik yelled via TS "Satchel! Drop a Satchel!". I was sitting in front of my screen and was thinking "What the hell is a Satchel?" and got killed... :noob: Of coarse, we lost the match.
Today I am a CoD2 CTF noob. I usually never know what the guys tell me via in game chat, mostely because I don't really know where the places are they are talking about.
I had a lot of fun with AX UO, starting as TDM player with a good PING of 150-175 on the server, and finally as BAS player with an more or less awful PING of 200 and more. My best time of pc gaming. I miss all the old guys and the good old matches.
