Server

Postby Rhino » Fri Apr 06, 2012 9:19 am

I'm wondering why we have a server when no one is playing this any longer. I thought this was the game to play for the foreseeable future but I rarely see more than one or two of our guys on at a time.

Hi, I'm Ted. Are you new around here?

All kidding aside, this happens with EVERY game we play. Ever since Call of Duty 2 (which is when I joined here), the staying power of games in this community has become less and less. It pretty much happened as soon as Activision began releasing a new CoD every 12 months. Plus, we may have started out as a purely Call of Duty community, but lets face it, there are a LOT of cool games out there to play and it has just simply spread our ranks too thin. Lastly, our members are growing up as a whole and having less and less time to play games due to other life commitments. To compound this, our influx of new, younger members is pretty much non-existent. Sorry man, I hate to say it, but welcome to the here and now. Just enjoy what games you can, when you can.

Yep its the same thing all the time, they release games when it is prime game playing season over the winter and we keep ok traffic. This happens every year, the weather starts looking better, more things to do other than video games and ppl have less time to play. Thats how it is for me at least. I am lucky to play 1 time a week now. 2 months ago I was on 3-4 nights a week.

hey hey hey now.. i'm on here 3 or 4 nights a week. Nobody's ever on though. I'd love to be playing with you guys. I'm one of those "new, younger" players that Rafter was talking about, and I've brought 2 new guys with me. I know I can be a bit obnoxious at times, so I apologize if my loud mouth has turned people away...

My buddy Milkman's on quite a bit, too.

Maybe there should be a recruiting phase or something. Everybody is tasked with bringing in a new member, and whoever brings in the most amount of "decent" people wins a prize...haha IDK. Maybe it'll get both the forums and the servers amped up a few notches.

I try and get on every night, but tend to go where teamspeak is most popular for the night, Monday WAW, Thursday PC and split between COD2 and BF, I still enjoy playing with a bolt, so COD2 seems the best for that. So, not the game but the people on and the banter  Have not warmed up to deathmatch in BF, rush is still favorite :)

I still think a Mixed Rush/Conquest server would be best. I'm not a big fan of DM either.

Rush is my favorite too...but I couldnt find any Conquest. Are they bluegrass or jazz?

Ohh wait....ummmm

So its a server setup issue? Hmmmmm :headscratch: Wish you guys had said something earlier...

Its been on sqdm because the games are short...you can play with a min of 2 - 4 players and it was drawing traffic once we had a minimum of 8 players. We just no longer have 8 AX players at any given time. In fact we might have a total of 8 ax players interested in playing bf3. :laugh2:

Maybe the game has just shot its load. Maybe people are tired of the maps, the gametypes, have finished all their achievements, and unlocked all their gizmos.

To quote Nightmare, "I got bored with it."

I guess Ive leared a few things here. Modern games die fast. Interest is seasonal. AX is too old (geriatric), not big enough and/or dedicated enough to support a server anymore. Maybe the game was more about unlocking stuff than actually playing the game. People were "Playing the Objective" its just that the objective was to unlock "Stuff". And here I thought the objective was to take the points... :2thumbsup:

Update...I flipped it over to mixed Rush/Conquest for ya. I hope you guys can make use of it for the remaining 3 months. If someone wants to get me a rotation I'll make sure it gets set up.

It must have been my turn to try out the startup server thingy...just a kid with a dream... :biglaugh:

I think you (Rhino) did and are doing great. Yes deathmatch was the way to go, it just don't excite me like CTF, but I definetly will play and support what is best. We tried rush and it just sat empty, so I think how it has been is the best way to go with it for sure. I'm not sure we should pay any attention to any comments from anyone that does not play on the server or with us? Am I wrong? I for one enjoy the "group" that has been playing and look forward to any FPS we are playing. Thanks for the hard work, it is appreciated by me for sure :chrisb:

Same here. I'm just attempting to keep a roof over my head thanks to tax season. Seems like a lot of us are all being hit by life at the same time.

over the past week, my kids have been really sick and I've been busy with work. One other game has caught my eye, but I've only been playing that once a week.

I jump on TS and if I see someone in the channel, I'll jump in, other wise I try to do some work.

So... How much to keep the server going?

We've had some good traffic lately, when we aren't travelling or busy with life, that is...

We raised $192 to fund it for 6 months. It should be paid for until like August but I (personally) have paid for it for the last 2 months.

On the other hand no one( relatively speaking) is playing BF3 anymore. The number of players is way down. We hardly draw any randoms and few of our players have made an effort to play of Tuesdays BF3 night.

It might be worth cutting it down to 16 slots to play just SQDM and the new close combat maps/gametype since we can never seem to populate it for anything bigger than that.

With our guys going to populated servers to play RUsh and Large Conquest I am resizing the server down to 16 slots at the end of the month. We only really play SQDM and Small Conquest. Its also the right size for the coming release of the Close Combat gametype. We will be ready for that and upon its release I will switch it to that to see if we can draw traffic.

Not a bad idea. This should also give us a few more months of the server being up, right?

Anyone gonna be on tonight? If so, what time? (EST)

Nota Bene - Rhino, you have done an admirable job trying to get this to work. It seems it is just too tough to bring players in consistently. I have been pretty busy lately but, that being said.....If I ever hop on, I will join anyone I see online. And yes, I actually like to play the objectives. I don't play for the 'perks'.
