RATE IT: Modern Warfare 2
9/10
If they didn't ruin the multiplayer, It would have probably been just about perfect. Simply amazing.

meh... single player feels more like an obstacle course than a first person shooter

I'll give it a 9/10. It's the best CoD single player campaign, pretty fun Coop and the multiplayer isn't too bad. The single player just made the experience so much better.

I'm playing the SP on PC and so far I'm very unimpressed. As goto said the levels are too cluttered and moving around is annoying. I also find the level where you play as a terrorist killing dozens of civilians in an airport in poor taste. And didn't IW say they "fixed" the problem with AI infinitely spawning? If anything it's worse. I'll see how I feel about the campaign when I finish it, but right now giving it a 3/10 is way too generous.

Re: RATE IT: Modern Warfare 2
honestly u know what this reminds me of? time crisis.... where they just shuffle you through set points with loads of enemies, stick you behind some wall where u pop out and shoot and pop out and shoot and hope not to die, then shuffle you through to the next area....
it's more memorization than combat, as you die and do the same part continually u think: pop out around wall, guy top left, guy bottom right, watch out for grenade, run, stab guy, get shot, die.... respawn, run, pop out around wall, guy top left, guy bottom right, watch out for grenade, run, stab guy, DUCK SHOT, shoot guy on left, DEAD.... respawn.... REPEAT, REPEAT, REPEAT....
if it wasn't for the graphics and cool rag doll physics, SP would SUCK relying on gameplay

You know, I'm really not impressed with this engines (CoD 4 - mw2) physics. Everything feels heavy and awkward, not realistic at all. The ragdolls are decent at best. The physics in this engine feel like they went with the cheap knockoff instead of the name brand. You can see awesome ragdolls/prop physics in games like Half Life 2, Fallout 3 and any recent Unreal Engine game.
Treyarch did improve the physics in WaW with the addition of constraints like ropes & hinges, and the vehicle physics are dead on.

lmfao
i'll give it a 6/10. single player was pretty good, even though it was incredibly enclosed. the special ops stuff was cool i guess. it wasnt too creative, though. and so far i cant say a good thing about the multiplayer. it sucks, and the crappy renditions of old maps (the map Warzone i think its called is brecourt but shitty) is retarded.
oh and i really like the way the weapons and ranks are set up. (sarcasm) it seems as if they started out with the best weapons and went backwards this time. the ak47 is the last weapon you get? are you serious? and you get the .44 magnum before the M9 pistol. bitch please.

Dude, the single player campaign is the best. Some cinematics were breathtaking, the graphics and colouring looked good. the voice acting was well done, and if you look over the storyline - there is no doubt that its the best CoD storyline ever. I could indulge in the details but i dont want to spoil the game.

sounds a lot like some of the smaller halo maps to me

Re: RATE IT: Modern Warfare 2
So far, most of what I have read is valid. However, I take into context the background of the people offering poor reviews...they're all PC gamers. This new generation of "straight for consoles" games is going to sicken every single one of them, over and over. I hate to break it to you guys... PC gaming as we know it is dying, and will continue to do so. Games will be smaller, less intricate, and designed for the new ADHD generation of gamers. Unless some of the gaming issues with Windows 7 are resolved, and soon, we'll be at the funeral. We're close, but who wants to develop for a medium that's harder to support and isn't racking up the sales figures?
With that said, my review of MW2 is simple: if you liked the first one, it stands to reason you will like the second. The zero punctuation review was staggeringly accurate as well, but he slammed quite a bit of the game that I still found enjoyable. For example, we're all slamming the "same ole, same ole" feeling of MW; not even much renovation, let alone innovation. For the single player campaign, why is that a bad thing? Granted, MW2 is ridiculously short compared to even MW, but I find it enjoyable enough to replay it on the separate difficulties (hardened and regular complete; working on veteran now) and chase the intel pieces (finally found all of them). The Spec Ops missions are a blast to play on, and a friend of mine is getting the PC version as well so we can try out the co-op levels. Why was there no co-op in SP? IW is lazy. Call it what it is.
Some of the notes in previous reviews are spot on. The physics are not bad, even somewhat realistic, but I agree with Corn it does feel clunky and heavy compared to other titles in the genre. The graphics were good to begin with, and while it doesn't feel like much renovation went on, it still looks and feels real. Sound was fantastic on my Logitech system, although the bass knocked some movies off the shelves. Fairly accurate depiction of surround locations saved my butt many times. The voice acting was the usual, although I liked Price slowly acting almost psychotic towards the end.
I've only scratched the surface of multiplayer gaming, and it's the usual Steam BS. Ho-hum. I'm working on cracking it and perhaps trying to host a local server to play on. I will leave MP out of this review, as I freely admit I bought the game knowing about the status of MP.
Overall? I do not feel like I wasted $55 buying it. Does it stack up against the legendary COD titles of old? God no. Was it worth giving it a run through? Absolutely. 7/10
EDIT: Corn, I have a couple of questions for you. Why did you find that massacre mission so tacky? In today's day and times, I'm finally glad someone came out and flipped off conventional political correctness we see all too often. Not to mention the way they actually incorporated it into the storyline, instead of a "woohoo! Let's kill EVERYONE!" kind of mission. I enjoyed it thoroughly the first time, and even more the second, when I actually started meleeing poor civilians in bad taste. Second, where are you referring to the infinite AI spawn? I've played several sections of the SP where you would think guys will keep coming...stay there, and empty every piece of ammo around the level... they WILL stop coming. I've tested it on various skill levels, it's still the same.

Something just didn't sit right with me about executing dozens of people in an airport. Seeing an innocent civilian dragging his bloodied body across the floor only to be finished off by one of the terrorists was kind of fucked up. I love violent video games, but there's an extent to the kind of violence I like in my games. This wasn't within those standards. Perfect example: running over people walking around in the streets of GTA is fun, slaughtering people waiting to see their families in an airport isn't.

The mission that comes to mind immediately is the one where your driver gets taken out by a gun on foot, then you chase him through the streets flooded with civilians, then into the cramped area packed with tiny little square buildings. Every time I'd empty my clip & clear an alleyway & duck into a corner to reload, when I stepped back out there would be a new group of enemies waiting or rounding the corner to occupy the same positions I just cleared out.

Re: RATE IT: Modern Warfare 2
I played the game at a friend's house on PS3 and from what I could tell. The SP is boring and repetitive, there have been many campaigns from other games that were far better. The MP is a joke, it's just got more ranks, guns, and more things to completely waste your life on. By the time you level 10 pres. the next game will be out and no one will care.
To me it's just another heavily commercially ensued game that will be long forgotten by the time the next heavily commercialized game comes out in, oh I don't know, probably about 6 months.
EDIT**: I do enjoy the hardcore mode. That's more old-style call of duty.

Fair enough. I agree that it is more morbid when the realism is heightened. Arcade violence certainly is not in the same category as this. Certainly you approved that they allow you to skip the mission with no penalty?

That's called Takedown. You CAN empty the area of hostiles. I just played it this morning on veteran. It took nearly seven and a half minutes to clear the area so you can walk freely before you advance further down the path, but nothing is shooting at you.

I know im late to the party but i agree with this. That level was really distasteful. I didn't fire once i kinda just sat there in awe that they put this in the game. But i guess i shouldn't be surprised after GTA. But still felt very wrong.
I knew the game would suck for the PC so i got it for the xbox and it was awesome. Multiplayer very fun.
