Edge of Town
Definitely a fun play and a challenge if you dont mind swearing at the computer alot.
It looks harmless enough but Joe and I couldnt crack this baby after 4 or 5 tries.
The main problem seems to be the distance from the allied bases to the river. There are also a lot of small cracks between buildings to plug up or the axis pour through and overwhelm you.
We tried:
1. The fast rush to the choke points (couldnt get to all of them fast enough)
2. Funneling them into a kill zone at the +16 fuel point (again they leaked through everywhere)
3. Building defenses in the streets and courtyards as we pushed up and every time they would find gaps.
You end up in a mircomanaged panic trying to plug the gaps and/or fall back and then they bring up the armor.
Ideas??

The biggest issue I see are the two +16 fuel points right across the river from the German bases. The computer knows how valuable fuel is and will place emphasis on capturing and holding these points at all costs. Frankly, for either team, fuel is about 10x more valuable than ammo. You could easily win a match without ammo. You can NOT win without fuel.
Here's a crazy idea that works on Hochwald Gap pretty well if executed properly...
Build large numbers of Jeeps and Bren Carriers and send them into the German bases IMMEDIATELY to start killing the Pioneers. If the Krauts can't build base structures, they can't make vehicles or advanced infantry units. While your vehicles keep the bases busy, have your infantry come behind and shore up the bridgeheads. Better yet, have engineers and/or sappers blow the bridges that are destructible or just block the hell out of them with barbed wire and tank traps.

Re: Edge of Town
So I beat it a couple of time going against a normal computer and a hard computer play.
Using Rafters suggestion I made 5 jeeps and 3 engineering groups.
I took the orange section and set up blocks ( tank traps and wire) at the red lines.
I had my computer player attack at the red circle and defend at the yellow circle.
Eventually he was beaten back but that gave me time to secure points and build my defenses.
Eventually the fight ended up mostly at the green circle but my artillery was able to beat them back.
I then took down the bridges and pushed back into the area of the red circle.
At that point they have few resources. I pounded their bases and slowly took out their armor.
With this map it all seems to about securing enough area to get resources but not more than you can possibly defend.
I havent tried it again expert cpu players yet..might not work then.

Re: Edge of Town
Got this monkey off my back with lots of logiks help.
Sealed up the foot bridge, lower bridge and +16 fuel point.
Left a gap for them near the +5 muntitions at the top two bridges.
Funelled them into this until we could get enough resources to amour and artillery up.
Took down the bridges. At that point they are pretty much unable to field much of anything in mass.
Pounded their base with offmap artillery and overwatch.
Victory!!

In convincing fashion, too. Well played. I will give the credit to Rhino totally for this one. He did all the commanding, I just set up where it was needed as directed.
Great job.
Great job.
