Match Recaps

Postby Rafterman » Tue Jun 07, 2011 6:35 am

Please place all post-match screenshots and recaps in this thread. It'll be a nice central location to document all our matches! Plus, we'll avoid Stevo's temper-tantrums. :)

Please list the date of the match, along with the map played and the players involved, whether human or computer.

June 6, 2011 - D-Day battle on Blue River Island

Finally! Redemption for the Rafterdog after a week filled with heart-breaking losses! Helluva match last night with 4 vs. 4 humans on Blue River Island that took an hour and 45 minutes to complete.

TEAMS

Allies - Lefty (Brits/Artillery), Rafterman (Brits/Artillery), Logik (US/Armor), Marty (US/Airborne)

Axis - Bielab, Keith, Grissim, Mugwa (Blitzkrieg, Defensive and Terror; Can't remember who went what)

MATCH RECAP

The central island and the area just on the Axis side of it were the primary battle points, with infantry skirmishes happening in the side towns and foot bridges. The Allies moved quickly to capture two 88mm guns on the main island, providing them with an early advantage. V1 rockets and 280mm off-map rocket strikes were continuously raining down on the Allied defensive forces, which included two Flakvierling guns, two 17-pound AT emplacements and a couple MG nests in addition to the two 88's.

The Axis pushed hard on all sides with Panzershreck-equipped Volksgrenadiers and Knight's Cross Holders on foot while King Tigers made relatively early appearances in an effort to help slow Allied armor forces. The battle was deadlocked for over an hour as both sides slugged it out for control of the middle island. However, a steady, constant bombardment of Calliope strikes and British artillery barrages devastated Axis infantry units and greatly weakened their armor, which were ultimately cleaned up early by 88's and 17-pounders and later by Shermans and Fireflies while en route to German bases.

German infantry units were eventually overrun in the towns as too much manpower was needed for armor production to fight the main battle in the middle of the map.

The Germans made a valiant last-ditch effort to slow Allied resource production by rushing to capture territory points and what were now nearly emptied out US and British bases, as all forces had been moved forward for the crushing blow. Axis base destruction was slowed by last-minute skirmishes between Panzershreck squads and the invading Allied armor.

Good game to all!

Commonwealth Blitzkrieg

Map: Bridges and Steel - If anyone has a screenshot of the final score screen that would be great

Players: With the exception of Buddha (Allies), the rest of the Allies were Brits.

Tactics: Thoughts to Buddha were, 'screw base defenses, we're taking the high ground and then their points on the other side.' This tactic worked on this 2v2 | 2v2 type map. The pressure of AT guns from paratroop drops and a rush to get Stuarts onto the battle field caused the Germans to fall behind in supply, units, anti-tank, and technology. Once the Allies had Fireflys on the battlefield, the German players claimed defeat and started dropping from the match.

Pointers: The Stuart will not take any damage from any type of MG fire. Regular grenades will only dent the tank as well. If there's enough Ammunition, the Stuart's canister shot can destroy entire squad(s) of infantry as well. So a force of Stuarts caused confusion on the German side until the heavy armor was deployed. Best counter is PAK guns due to their damage and extended range.

Demo charges on Resource points
A unique Commando tactic, works well on slowing Germans recapturing their points. Once a commando squad takes a point you can place a demo charge on it (50 ammo). It's better to have control of the point so you can be warned of the point being taken from you and blow the charge manually. Demo charges can be placed anywhere as 'Manual mines' allowing you to blow up entire squad(s) at map choke points also.

Demo charges will not show up unless placed on bridges or if the opponent has mine detection.
You should never argue with idiots, because they will drag you down to their level....then beat you with experience.

Calling the Kettle black. The highest number of infantry squads I had in the match was 5 squads (3 rangers, 2 rifleman). The most Maarek had was 6 squads, one was out capping points on the flanks.

One of your teammates had 6 Knights Cross Holders at one point in the match and your Panzer elite teammate had 15 panzer grenadier squads :disturbed: and nothing else.

i thought we had a nice cross section of infantry, armor and support units, but I guess I had my infantry do most of the fighting for me :) .

Nevereless it was a very good match and tx for joining

I think we would had a better game and less drops if we played on a stock map :Ponder:
But like Boog said, it can be tough at times connecting everyone to 4 vs. 4's.
It was kind of strange having all those players (3) dropping at once in tonights game. I have never seen anythine like that before  :(

Good 2 vs 2 match on rails and metal. Blazer and I (Axis) vs. Medieval and Maarek (Allies). Match could have gone either way

Okay, here is the 2 vs 2, Blazer and I (Axis) vs. Maarek and Medieval (Allies)

Good match, could have gone either way. Blazer and I were lucky to hold one of the medium fuel points and prevent Maarek from building a sim city on the other. We could have lost that fuel point and the match early.

Good 4 vs 4 match last night. No one lost connection during the match too :) . I thought the Krauts would mount a successful comeback when medieval pushed with infantry and one of the Wermact players dropped countless off map artillery on our support units. Luckily, Logik brought some armor support on the left flank and was successful pushing them back again. Good game, Grissim fought to the end as usual :p .

Image

Again, sorry for the late start for the match. Blazer and I played a nail biting one vs one victory point match on Wrecked Train. I was the Wermact and Blazer was the Yanks. I was down to 24 points on the ticker when I somehow annihilated Blazers entire force. Blazer had 455 points on the ticker. Instead of mounting a comeback Blazer surrendered so we can play the 4 vs. 4. The match is 40 minutes and you can also see Stevo's whisper to me. Hope you enjoy :) .

Good match on refinery last night. A lot longer than the 9 minute one we played a little over a month ago :) .

Image

It was a challenge dodging all those mortar barages and Calliope's barrages from the allies

For the Allies Grissim and Logik went Armor Command and Lefty went Infantry Command

For the Axis Medieval and Keith went Terror and I went Blitz.

Keith may not have had a very high score, but he had a sniper hidden basically in the middle of their side of the map so we could see where they were moving everybody, and he kept chasin' down the Calliope's

Played very well, you are learning fast. Just don't have your snipers charge and take on Medievel's bike ;) . Also tell your wife not to call when you are in the match :)

Keith played very well. Later in the game he sent a few Stugs on Logik's and Grissim's flank to help me out against all their armor units they had on the field.

Speaking about snipers... last night... not once, not twice, but three times you infiltrated a sniper into my base :banghead: :nono2: :2thumbsup: . First time you took out my withdrawing infantry squads  . The next two times, I was on to you :) . The first half of the match, I just had trouble advancing and really couldn't do anything because you guys gained veterency too fast. Good game and thank you Speirs for joining us

Medieval and Till made it especially tough for the allies. All those flak 88's and that panzer grenadier blob kept allied armor at bay for most of the game.

It was ridiculous. It was one major bridge to cross and there were something like 5 88's, 6-8 Nebel's and who knows how many mortar teams. I lost up to 5 whole teams quite a few times.

Bah! That's child's play. A couple creeping barrages would have turned them into scrap metal.

I gotta get back into playing CoH. It seems you guys need the Artillery Master to make a grand return pretty soon. :D

Yeah it was  . With Till and Buddha going with the defensive doctorine, they built a lot of flak 88's on their side of the choke point. It took a lot of arty to get them out of that position.

Also we missed Fullwood after he dropped. He went with the Airborne doctorine. His straffing runs would have been very useful supressing Medieval's pazer grenadier blobs. Luckily, Logik's Calliopes picked up the slack for us.

Not posting the pic since it was a 1v1 against Hard AI, but River Battle sucks. Played it last night and lost because I created 2 Hellcats and all 3 bridges are somehow not usable for large vehicles. Just played now and crushed it with 2 Shermans and 2 AT's because the Shermans could cross a small section of the river.
