Etiquette states Raino has to post the next pic. Wilbur go download a jpeg from somewhere and upload it using the IMG tab above!

The Italian War machine was an embarassment too, lacking in materials and weapons.

Pictured above is a Japanese MediumTank prototype, a Type5-ChiRi. Seems to be missing the gun.

Better Look
http://ww2drawings.jexiste.fr/Files/1-Vehicles/Axis/3-Japan/02-MediumTanks/Type5/Chi-Ri.htm

...was the penultimate medium tank developed by the Imperial Japanese Army in World War II. Intended to be a heavier, more powerful version of Japan's sophisticated Type 4 Chi-To medium tank, in performance it was designed to surpass the US M4 Sherman medium tanks being fielded by the Allied forces. The single prototype was still being built when the war ended....

As with the Type 4 Chi-To medium tanks, the Type 5 Chi-Ri tanks were earmarked for the final defenses of the Japanese home islands against the expected Allied invasions. Army planners envisioned large armored divisions equipped with the Type 5 medium tanks driving the invaders back into the sea, but the war came to an end before even the first prototype could be completed.

Interseting note below, seems like it might have made it to sight we all know here at AX, thanks to Stoss.

The single prototype Type 5 was seized by American forces during the occupation of Japan, but its subsequent fate is unknown. One theory is that it sank in the ocean when a freighter taking it to the Aberdeen Proving Grounds capsized in a typhoon; another theory is that it was scrapped for its metal armor during the Korean War.

i buy that one more than the sunken ship.
all things considered the Type5 was just a japanese Pzkpfw 4 ausf F2 and as such, not much to learn from it really.. :2cents:

The Japanese had to know there was a reason their best friend in the whole world, Germany was not using 3.7cm and 5cm guns any more. but such a design like that late in the war was because of Japans trouble getting even enough oil for its airforce, most brass also probably saw tanks as a novelty weapon, and for their situation in the war they certanly were. which begs WHY they never employed heavier calibur AT weapons instead..?
