Wings of Prey
Anyone playing this? I just reinstalled it via Steam.
Forgot how much fun this is. I could use a wingman.
Lets grab a couple of B17G's and do a little bombing of In WW2 Germany.

Looks a barrel of fun.
How hard are the controls (joystick, keyboard blah blah) because if it is too realistic control wise, most fun dissappears for me

Its pretty simple so far...
Joystick with trigger for guns, buttons for bombs, flaps and landing gear.
There are three flight modes....arcade, realistic and simulator modes.
There are some keys to learn as you go that change your view and let you look out of the cockpit.
The game seems to allow you to fly and fight pretty simply but as you move on you adopt and learn more of the advanced controls and features.
Eventually you can instruct your aircraft escorts to perform tasks, cover you etc.
Its $20 and via steam you can download the free demo.
The pdf manual is here:

Re: Wings of Prey
Is there a demo? I'm a bit skeptical that in keeping with realism that the 190's were the top of the line at the time. Also, no zero's?

There's no Pacific campaign in the game: http://www.airwargame.com/eng/campaigns/
No Pacific, no Zeroes.
I also find it interesting that they use an "F" prefix for the US planes, such as the F-51D. This is historically incorrect, as the F (Fighter) designation wasn't used in place of P (Pursuit) until 1948, obviously well after the war was over. The developers need to do their research a bit better first.

Really? Who cares??
This isn't a history piece its a game and besides in the game they are listed with P as in P-51 So I wouldnt go off that website. I posted it as reference. None of which matters compared to game play and having fun. If accuracy mattered there isnt a game out there that would ever get the Rafterman seal of approval. Must explain why I never see you playing BF3
Yes Till there is a demo on Steam.
The is also an addon:
Wings of the Luftwaffe
About the Game
This expansion will feature ten single missions with support for up to four players in co-op mode, two new planes and over 40 aircraft skins.
In Wings of Luftwaffe, the player takes the role of a German pilot in explosive battles over Britain, Sicily, the USSR, Belgium and Germany. From blockading aerodromes, to intense dogfighting and bombing runs, players must fight with honour and bravery for the glory of Germany.
Air combat fans will enjoy strapping into one of the game's many planes and seeing the Second World War through the eyes of a German pilot. Wings of Luftwaffe puts you in the heat of battle, creating an experience so lifelike, you'll feel the padded seat yield to your weight as you evade enemy fire. Wings of the Luftwaffe offers a chance to experience first hand the desperate fight in the skies over Europe during World War II from another perspective.
Key Features:
Take to the skies as a German pilot;
Embark on 10 new missions;
Cooperative mode for up to four players;
New planes: the Ju 88 A-4 and the P-39N-0;
44 new skins for the various planes.

I do. People who care about the proper representation of history do.

I have 139 hours of time logged in BF3. I haven't played it in a few months because I've been busy with Skyrim (117hrs), The Orange Box (13hrs) and school (COUNTLESS hours) I also play on ice hockey and softball teams and have a wife and a social life.
100% authenticity is not required for me to play a game. However, if I was a game programmer who was developing a title related to history or war (or both), I would make damn sure it was as accurate as possible. Then again, I'm also a bit of a perfectionist, but either way it would be done right.

If I wanted a proper representation of history I'd read a book, visit a historical site or museum , watch the history channel or view a dvd documentary.
Im just trying to find a someone to fly with but if your gonna crap on my attempts in the name of historical accuracy then....ummm thanks.....

Re: Wings of Prey
I'll check it out if I can run it. I'm a JUNKIE for flying and the Thunderbolt was built, tested, and based out of my hometown of Millville, NJ... America's first air defense field.
The local high school renamed the team the "Thunderbolts" during the war. My dad's picture hangs in the Thunderbolt Hall of Fame for his ~30 years of service as the team doc.
