So if it is late spring, early summer in New York, that will be June or July 2012?
I am thinking of coming to New York. Never been there and would love to..
If it is that far away in the future I might start setting some money away for the airfare which will be a bit..
Looking at the people planning to come I might just cut the proverbial 'Bush Ties' and come out of Isolation for a New York Visit. Do they also serve some decent red wine in those silly beer bars?

That is about $300-00/month. I'll just start putting money aside and see how we go.
If I come it will be for a few weeks. Not much sense for just a short time for that money of course.
Better wear my NZ T shirt to create some goodwill among the New Yorkers. I heard they are tough going but are
always betting for the underdogs :).

new yorkers are good people. much nicer than massholes. Although, coming from NZ, any big city folk will come across as rude ;)

everybody will think you're an Aussie, though, and Americans love Aussies. Just demonstrate the difference in the pronunciation of "fish and chips" and you'll be a great ambassador!

Americans love the Aussie/Kiwi accent, you'll be fine.

Long term stuff... man, there's a ton. Just museums alone there is the MET, MoMA, Natural History, the Whitney. Plus you can see major landmarks like Central Park, the Bronx Zoo, Empire State Building, Chysler Building, Rockafeller Center (the tower there has an amazing veiw of the Empire State Building), Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.

Not to mention events and whatnot that are aimed at locals, but always a ton of fun. If you put your research in you'll find a ton of stuff to do, no doubt. New York will never not have something going on.

So, to get this discussion going, how about we shoot for late Spring. Say, May 26th? Hit up the Intrepid (it might have the space shuttle at that point).

outside of airfare, which will change depending on your location, what kind of budget should we look to saving for the time we're actually there? how long are we planning on staying?

and when i say "budget", i mean funds for a decent hotel and the activities that we KNOW we're gonna do... any drinking/shopping money i can factor in on my own.

NYC is all good, but Philly would be even better. Lots of stuff to do, shows to see, places to eat, etc... Most likely cheaper hotels and less expensive in general.

Not to mention the fact that all NY based sports teams SUCK! hard.

Alright... here's my situation:

I'll be coming up to Jersey sometime between March 9~March 17 for my Father's memorial service there. That's where we're from and he had a chiropractic practice for 40 years before he retired.

That being said, I can't take the additional time to come up later in the spring. However, anyone that wants to meet up while I'm in the area, I think I'll be in Philly at least one, maybe two of the days we're there. I would love to get a lunch or take a museum tour with anyone who's interested.

Let me know if anyone can meet up.

As it stands now, I would be flying in to A.C. late Thursday night and out on the following Saturday. I don't know what the schedule holds because of the amount of family that will be there, but let me know what works for you and if at all possible, I'd love to meet up.

I won't be able to swing making this. Money's too tight and my travel budget was maxed getting Refused tickets to NYC in March. If it was in NYC I 'd probably be able to go, as it's a simple train ride for me. From where I am it's nearly 2 hours and 30 minutes down to Philly.

Think a differnet venue might fair better. Just a thought.

Charleston, Pensacola, Dayton, Savanah.. Much Cheaper. New Orleans also a possibility. Alot of history too. Would be really neat to coincide with ain airshow and or warhip or museum trip. Seatlle and Portland have some great museums too but might have to get a larger bill with the long airfare.
