POS

Postby Matrix » Fri May 17, 2013 8:34 pm

Well, if any of you cod2 gurus can tell me why it takes my game nearly a full 5 minutes to load you win a donut. It has been doing this all along but it's now to the point of just pissing me right off.
No reason for it and I have found no solutions other than something about reconfiguring my router manually.

The helpful info:
This is NOT the steam COD2, it's my original
Windows 8
plenty of horsepower so that's not it
No other game does this
untouched config file

Windows 8 is a mistake. Your system is in need of a proper OS. I suggest clean install of Win 7 asap. :2cents:

Because you don't like Windows 8 isn't going to load my game any faster man. Now if there is some documentation showing that's what's making it load so damn slow..lay it on me. :banghead:

Read multiple forums of people having compatibility issues. I suggest, I you want to attempt to keep win8, then make sure all win updates are installed, all ur drivers are installed, and all patches for the game are installed. Also run in admin mode and, if you have pro, even try compatibility mode too.

Tried all that and then some. Keeping Win8 either way, despite the resistance any OS that costs me only 40 bucks is a keeper. This game is the only one that gives me trouble. Actually, as I recall when I installed it under Win7 prior to upgrading it spat out the same warning that COD2 isn't compatible.

Once the game loads after 5 minutes, it plays decently. I get the occasional crash if i minimize and I get some CI's now and then but overall if I weigh it out...I guess it's something I am just going to have to live with. My only alternative is wiping the disk and that's far too much time/work for the result. I just thought maybe somebody had finally found a workaround to this issue. Donut offer still stands! :chrisb:

Gotta agree with Nova ............... must be a windows 8 compatibility issue. That or an AV setting.

There were no compatibility issues with Win7 and COD2, other than some weird config settings; proper desktop background, have to have mic plugged in, etc., etc..

Yep, it's specific to Windows 8. Installed to my sons rig (also windows 8) and it does the same thing. I am able to get it to boot up in about three minutes after making some adjustments. It's not a huge deal, but it's fairly annoying.

I don't know if this would work...and it seems you've already identified the issue (eh hmm...Windows 8... eh hmm), but you could try adding the game to Steam and see if that smooths out the loading process a bit. I have no idea if this will work, or do anything for that matter, but at least it would organize your games a bit.
