Inactivity Timer
A player made what I think is a very good suggestion this morning after a player on a small team sat idle for over 10 minutes. Why not have inactive players "booted" or disconnected from the game after a set period of time.
I know many of us have been interrupted during game play by a phone call or some other emergency that prevented us from contributing to our team. I will usually try to disconnect myself so as not to hurt the team from getting new players first, but don't always have the opportunity to do so.
With the new "memory" of player stats, I wouldn't have a problem with an "inactive" player being automatically disconnected after say 1 minute. If they are disconnected due to inactivity, they will regain their current game stats when they rejoin the game later.
Just thought this was a good idea that should be considered if it can be done.

Re: Inactivity Timer
I think the idea is a sound one. i think longer than 1 minute would be needed. There are times when sniping that you sit for long periods covering a certain strategic area of the map. If you did have the sniper rifle and was booted the opportunity to continue your part for the team would be lost. There are also people that camp or stake out enemy routes of movement and this would make the gaming experience for them a real head ache and may drive them away. These, of course, are only personal opinions.

Re: Inactivity Timer
i have thought about this. i think instead of kicking the person, we'd be better off just automagically switching them to spectator mode.
should be easy to do.

That would be a great idea, it would also take care of the fact that the team have got a bad spawn point due to an inactive player.

Re: Inactivity Timer
Forcing an inactive player to spectate would be perfect. As far has how long does a player have to be inactive before this happens? Well how do you define inactive? A true afk does not move the mouse, or toggle down site, etc. So if you are a sniper not looking around or toggling sites, or holding your breath, then you are not sniping my friend and should be kicked to spectate. If you are a route ambusher then you are probably moving the mouse to listen to your surroundings, or peeking around a corner. 1 minute is enough time to get 1 or more caps. I would place this inactive player timer at 1 minute and give it a trial run. If it is set to 2 minutes or longer this defeats the purpose of what Loanshark has asked. I have played many maps that we lost because some one was afk for less than one minute forcing a crap spawn away from where our team was focusing our attack. For example Carentan, an afk on German side totally will force all to spawn behind your flag. All the progress made to take and hold the middle building is lost and now they spawn camp you.
I do not believe during my sniping or ambushing I ever sat completely still not moving anything for 1 minute, I'd be dead if that where the case.
My 2 cents.

Re: Inactivity Timer
I would say one minute at the most. Reason, the maps are pretty small and it can make a team get dominated due to a bad spawn. I would request that a warning message go up on the players screen warning them for an inactivity kick in 10 seconds or so. If that is even possible.

Re: Inactivity Timer
Moving the person to spectator fixes the problem. I agree with Stingray, I can't imagine someone sitting completely still without moving at all for 1 minute if they are sniping. You are always looking around and moving the mouse. Even so, if the person was moved to spectator, but could rejoin their team AND keep their stats, that works. I think we have a consensus.
Also, the reason why this was brought up in the first place was a game where a player sat for 10 minutes and wasn't kicked, so there is no 5 minute rule already.
Thanks for looking at this. I think it will improve the game play.

Re: Inactivity Timer
Could have sworn I saw this working the other night. Being tested or released? From what I remember I spawned next to an afk and a minute later he was kicked.

Re: Inactivity Timer
I haven't seen it in effect yet. Just Sunday I played in several matches where my team had players that were obviously inactive for extended periods of time but were not moved to spectator mode. In that time period other players were allowed to join the opposing team making the teams unbalanced.
Hope someone can get this tweak into the server soon.

That is only happening when the player is pinging out(999). They are not actually afk just connection interuption. Then eventually they get kicked for not responding to tool inquiries or somthing like that. I don't believe the afk switch to spectate, though awesome idea, is in effect.

Re: Inactivity Timer
The only problem I see is for people camping with the flag. I've been kicked for inactivity in the past while holding the flag, and it is bigtime BS. As long as everyone knows the inactivity thing is on though, it's not that hard to move around a bit every few seconds when you're hiding.
