Round 2 has lasted more than 10 days and the tournament is about to go on its 4th week. I needed someone to advance.... Since I saw two posts from Chevy in attempting to coordinate to play the matches... I am going to move him along since we already have a finalist.

:biglaugh: . I guess I did not explain myself very well from my post in the Lounge.

I declared myself inelegible for my own prize money. So no matter what happens in the finals, the winner of the Semi-final match between Chevy and Tiger will win the first place prize. The winner of the consolation game will win the second place prize :D .

I was hoping that the prize money would inspire/motivate players to take the tournament seriously. For players to take a look at some of the tutorials, to learn some new strategies, to watch a few replays and pick up a few fundamentals of the game that they may have not known or were aware of.

Also, I really wanted players to come to the table to play and experience playing in a 1 vs. 1. So I wanted the tournament to be flexible and let players schedule their own matches with each other instead of scheduling a date and time and having players not making it because of schedule conflicts. Because of this, I knew the tournament will be drawn out and I was hoping some prizes will motivate players to stick with the tournament and not fade out.

The donation to ax is for Rhino consulting fees :D and if need be, potential rally cries for players to join or complete the tournament. Also with all this talk of moving the community forward and low donations in the summer months, figured to be genorous and donate in the names of the tournament winners :D

So there is some method to my madness :p

The Finals are here.

The final matches will be between Chevrolet and myself. The Consolation/bronze medal game will be between Rafter and Arctictiger.

The Finals and the bronze matches will be played on Semois. The rules will still be the same. Good Luck, Have Fun!!

Chevy, I will be on teamspeak tonight and tomorrow evening, probably between 8:30 and 9. I will let you know if something comes up and my schedule changes. BTW.... good matches vs Tiger :cool2:

Congrats Tiger. You definitely deserved both wins. :)

I, on the other hand, apparently have no fucking clue what I'm doing in this game. So, until I get a clue, I'll be taking a little break from playing CoH with the community.

Thanks Bielab for setting up this tournament and especially for donating your own cash as the prize. It was personally a real wake-up call for me and made me wholeheartedly regret playing nothing but comp-stomps for the past 3+ years. I will certainly not make the same mistake with CoH2.

See you guys around. :wave2:

To be honest, I really did not deserve to be there. I was randomly chosen as one of the people to get a first-round bye, so I automatically advanced there. Then, I beat Keith in round two, but got smoked by Bielab in round three and lost to Tiger very quickly in the 3rd place match. So out of 4 rounds with a minimum of 8 possible games, I got a freebie on two games, then lost 4 out of the last 6 games, including the final 4 that I played. How I even ended up in the 3rd place match is a mystery to me. Had I been one of the people who had to play a first round match and been unlucky enough to be paired with Chevy or Bielab, for example, I never would have made it any farther than that, which is frankly what should have happened.

Honestly, I don't know what the hell is wrong with me right now. If I can survive the first 10-minutes, I seem to do OK, but my initial build orders must be totally fucked up because I'm losing matches before anything really even gets started. In both my first match with Bielab on Wrecked Train and my second match with Tiger on Semois, I was the Brits when playing the Allied side and didn't even really get started doing much before I got stomped. Like I said before, I've got literally hundreds of rounds under my belt with them, but I guess I've been doing things all wrong these years, because my performances were downright pathetic. Seriously, if you watch the replays, I look like someone who's been playing the game for 3 weeks, not 3 years. I have ZERO clue how my opponent always manages to capture 3/4 of the resource points before I've even gotten a 3rd or 4th squad of men out. Then, it always seems like my infantry gets sliced to pieces no matter who they're up against or how well I keep them in directional cover or buildings. Against Tiger for example, I spent more time with all my squads at base reinforcing than I actually spent fighting. I'd send them out, then they'd immediately get cut to pieces and I'd have to retreat again in less than 60-seconds. Same thing happened against Bielab too. Whether I was Axis or Allies, it mattered not.

I'm really not trying to throw myself a pity party here, but I'm dead serious when I say that my performance in the tournament was utter shit. I need LOTS of improvement, to say the least. I'm VERY adamant about getting a fresh start with CoH2 though, because everyone will be on an even playing field again at the beginning.

Rafterman, I must say you had the upper hand in the first match for a good bit. But it was kinda unfair, as I had played 4 matches with Bielab on that same very map within the past week, so I was more prepared to play that map.

Well, that's some consolation, but I totally screwed the pooch when I failed to get Pumas out to counter the BAR-equipped riflemen. I KNOW better than that too. I had the Sturm Armory built far ahead of time, but got tunnel vision and was so damn focused on getting the StuHs out that I totally skipped over building Pumas. Then, I pushed my StuHs too far forward and let them get sticky-bombed. When I fell back behind the choke point and you loaded it with mines, I knew it was over. I think I need to focus more on keeping my head out of my ass when I play and I'll do a lot better. It's usually just one dumb mistake that costs me a match, but just one is all it takes in this game.

Arctictiger wrote:But it was kinda unfair, as I had played 4 matches with Bielab on that same very map within the past week, so I was more prepared to play that map.

No, don't discount yourself. I easily watched over half a dozen pro-level replays on Semois before our matches. I thought I had a good technique planned out, and I probably did, but when you don't act on your plan and follow through with it, that's when things fall apart. You followed through with your plan and mine got scrambled. Same thing happened against Bielab; I seemed to be doing alright (at least when I was PE and he was British), but then a dumb mistake here or there (like not preparing for a Stuart early on) cost me the match.

I think once I can train my brain to do certain things subconsciously, I'll be alright. My mind is trained to function best while playing first-person shooters, where all my attention is focused on what's in my immediate vicinity. To be successful at RTS games, you need exceptional multi-tasking (aka "macro" and "micro") abilities to stay in tune with what's going on all over the map, and I just haven't gotten those ironed out yet. I will in time though.
